    Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Regional centre previously known as Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped was established in 1986. It is an autonomous organization under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi. The institute is situated at Manovikas Nagar, Secunderabad. The institute has completed more than 38 years in service delivery to the disabled by helping individuals and families affected by hearing impairment and speech and language disorders by focusing on various aspects of rehabilitation and developing new strategies for early identification, improving education facilities of the Hearing impaired, vocational training and job placements. This Institute serves the needs of the patients not only from Telangana State but also from the neighbouring states free of charge.

    The institute offers quality education at affordable cost, and various government scholarships are also been availed by our students. Students from all over India joins prefers this as most suitable college for them. Since past Two and half decades this Institute excelled in the Education, Rehabilitation in the professions of Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology and Special Education.

    The centre was initially situated at Marredpally with the administrative and training programs at Manovikas Nagar In the year 1999-2000 on the completion of its building, various activities of AYJNISHD SRC came under the one roof.

    The centre started with only two diploma-level training programs and has grown in leaps and bounds by adding graduate-level programs in the education of the hearing impaired and graduate and post-graduate level training programs for audiologists and speech-language pathologists.Presently the institute has one post-graduate program M.Sc (audiology), One BASLP Program, One Diploma and Degree program in Special Education, apart from One Indian Sign Language Diploma program. This Institute is affiliated to Osmania University , under recognition of RCI – New Delhi.

    The objectives of the institute include

    Manpower Development: To deal with the various aspects of rehabilitation, of the hearing impaired, various undergraduate and postgraduate courses are being offered. The institute is rated excellent by the RCI.

    Research: Research in the areas of identification, intervention, educational approaches, remedial teaching methods, jobs for the hearing Impaired and technology development has been carried out

    Educational Programmes: By studying the existing school for the deaf, curriculum followed, Methods of teaching, etc, and supplementing or strengthening them by way of improving existing educational facilities and developing new strategies

    Service facilities: Strategies for early identification and rehabilitative procedures. films and audiovisuals and vocational training and job placement, etc, are being provided.

    Community Programmes: Identification and intervention of homebound training services of being rendered and evolved with emerging needs

    Material development: Various materials developed for education, like teaching aids, audiovisuals, etc. public awareness and community education, literacy programming for adult deaf, parents counseling, and programs for strengthening voluntary organizations.

    Information and Documentation: Documenting and disseminating the latest information and developments in the field of speech and hearing.

     

    AUDIOLOGY Section

    The Audiology Section is a crucial healthcare unit specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders and related conditions. Experienced Audiologists and highly trained professionals in this field, utilize advanced technology to assess hearing ability, provide rehabilitation services such as hearing aids, and offer counselling to improve communication, and recommendation for the Cochlear Implant surgeries under ADIP Scheme. Our services focus on supporting an individual to adjust to hearing loss and make the best use of the Hearing Aids, Cochlear Implants and other listening devices in order to manage verbal conversations, and take charge of their own communication and earn their livelihood and improves the Individuals quality of life

    The Audiology lab is equipped with latest state of art technology equipments to detect and asses the Hearing Loss and level of Hearing Impairment. Latest BIS certified, ISI marked Digital BTE Hearing aids are be provided to the hearing-impaired patients under ADIP (Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids/Appliances) Scheme.

    This department also provides  academic training to students in audiology. This department has qualified Readers, Lecturers in Speech and Hearing, along with the lecturers from allied field like Electronics, and ASLPs teach the Audiology and Speech Language Pathology students about the evaluation of hearing and balance disorders, prevention of hearing loss, and diagnosis and treatment of persons with hearing and balance impairment. They provide information and training on all aspects of hearing and balance to other professions including psychology, counselling, rehabilitation, education and other related professions. Audiologists provide information on hearing and balance, hearing loss and disability, prevention of hearing loss, and rehabilitation to business and industry.

    This department conducts the Hearing Screening Camps , Hearing Aid Distribution Camps regularly for the ADIP hearing Aids Scheme in Telangana Region and also various other states of India. Also this department maintains the national registry for the beneficiaries of the ADIP scheme

    Criteria for getting Hearing aids under ADIP Scheme

    • Disability certificate 40% or above alongwith the UDID Card
    • Income certificate Less than Rs.22,500/- PM

    Ear Mould Lab

    Earmould Lab is dedicated to creating custom ear moulds and hearing protection solutions. Our team of skilled technicians and audiologists work together to provide high-quality, precise, and comfortable ear moulds tailored to each individual’s needs .

    Hearing aid accessories, Services repair

    ​Electronic Lab is dedicated to teach latest state of Art Technological Advancements in the Hearing Aid, Audiological Evaluation Instruments and taking care of the Hearing Aid repairs.

    A lot of research activities are conducted towards the support for the dissertation of the M.Sc ( Audiology ) course, In house Research activities are also conducted. This lab has developed a Low Cost noise level Indicator. Which has won many prestigious awards at various workshops and NCED. This invention got patented during November 2023, In this lab we undertake free of cost Hearing Aid repairing of the patients. Also this lab takes care of the repair and maintenance of the Audiology Instruments in Audiology Lab and Speech evaluation Instruments in the Speech Lab.

    This lab supports the various multi media set up in the training and teaching methodologies. This lab helps in the Internet security and computer maintenance Software support for the organisation.

    SPEECH AND LANGUAGE Section

    The Speech and language Department is dedicated to helping individuals improve their communication skills through comprehensive assessment and tailored therapy. Our experienced clinicians in the area of speech-language pathology works with children, adults, and seniors to address a variety of speech and language challenges.

    At our Regional Centre , our Speech-language pathologists for every patient develop an individualized plan tailored to each patient’s needs. For individuals with little or no speech capability, our Experienced speech-language pathologists also select augmentative or alternative communication methods, including automated devices and sign language, and teach their use. They teach patients how to make sounds, improve their voices, or increase their oral or written language skills to communicate more effectively. They also teach individuals how to strengthen muscles or use compensatory strategies to swallow without choking or inhaling food or liquid. Speech-language pathologists help patients develop, or recover, reliable communication and swallowing skills so patients can fulfil their educational, vocational, and social roles.

    The Faculty in this department have undertaken many research and developmental Tools in the area of Speech and Language development activities, to detect the speech problems in Children and Adults. These developed tools  have received many national level recognitions.

    Psychological Evaluation Unit

    The Psychology Department is dedicated to advancing the understanding of human behaviour and mental health. Our psychologist is committed to provide comprehensive psychological services and Psychological evaluation and counselling . Psychotherapy, behaviour therapy and play therapy

    Education Section

    The Education Department is dedicated to providing high-quality educational programs that foster lifelong learning and personal growth. Our team of experienced educators and staff work collaboratively to create a supportive and enriching environment for Children’s. This department trains the young teachers in the area of Special Needs like how to deal and teach children with learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Language and Speech Processing Disorders,  ADHD, Emotional and behavioural problems, Speech difficulties,  etc. This department also focuses on teaching the teachers in inclusion in education as  a dynamic phenomenon and to modify itself as per the needs of the learners, irrespective of his/her abilities/disabilities and backgrounds.

    This department also provides Academic related counselling to the young children and Young adults. This department has developed many learning materials and curricular resources like teachers’ guides, manuals, index for inclusive schools, training guidelines and literacy curriculum etc.

    Apart from this, the Special Education department  undertake  a number of programs in Curriculum development, Short Term training programmes and extension activities for making education accessible to the disadvantaged groups including the learners with disabilities. this department is instrumental in implementing the New Education Policy ( NEP).

    Community Based Activities

    An Individuals Hearing loss impacts not just the individual but the entire family and society in general. The supportive measures for these individuals hearing loss will therefore be more effective in a community-based approach to target this issue – that is, through Community  Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programmes.

    The Regional Centre Secunderabad regularly undertakes the Community-based rehabilitation (CBR). This  is a program which are designed to support persons with disabilities living in remote and rural areas. Our CBR program primarily aims to provide required rehabilitation services to financially poor persons with disabilities living in communities with limited access to such services. The CBR programs are majorly implemented through the regular School Screening Camps, General Speech and Hearing Screening camps and Hearing Aids Distribution camps etc.

    Academics Section

    The Academics section takes care of work related to conducting of all courses i.e. Recognition and renewals from RCI, affiliation from University, admissions of students, preparation of academic calendar and timely conduct of exams.

    Library

    Library- A store house of knowledge the mission of library is to provide information services on access to bibliographical and full text digital and printed resources to support the scholarly and informational needs to institute user community
