About Regional Centre, Noida
Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Regional Centre, Noida was established as Regional Centre of Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Mumbai in 1986. It is an Autonomous Institute under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. The centre was first established at Kasturba Niketan, Lajpat Nagar II, New Delhi and has been shifted to Noida in April, 2015. The institute was renamed from Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped to Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Mumbai on 07.09.2016. Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Northern Regional Centre, Noida has also been renamed as Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Regional Centre, Noida in 118th Executive Committee Meeting of AYJNISHD held on 21.10.2017.
The objectives of this centre are manpower development, clinical services, educational programme, community programme and research. The centre started with diploma programme and presently offering certificate, diploma and graduate level courses in the field of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Education of Persons with Hearing Impairment and vocational training for persons with Hearing Impairment. Diploma and Graduate courses are recognised by Rehabilitation Council of India and Certificate level course is affiliated to National Institute of Open Schooling.
Clinical Services
The institute is equipped with state of art instrument for hearing assessment and intervention, speech and language assessment and intervention, educational evaluation of persons with hearing impairment, pre-school education to children with hearing impairment and psychological evaluation. The centre provides clinical services at subsidized rate from Monday to Friday between 09.00 am to 05.30 PM(closed on Saturday, Sunday and Gazetted Holiday).

Audiology Unit
Audiology is branch of science which deals with study of hearing, balance and its disorders. Audiologist is registered hearing health care professional who specialized in the screening, diagnosis and management of hearing and vestibular disorders in children and adults.
Audiologists use various equipments and techniques for assessment of hearing and balance function such as pure tone audiometer, admittance audiometry, speech audiometry, Auditory Brainstem Response, Otoacoustic emission (OAE) measures and Auditory Steady State Responses (ASSR). After measurement of hearing, many children and adult with hearing loss would require hearing aid, cochlear implant and assistive listening devices which are prescribed by the Audiologist. After prescription and fitment of hearing aid / cochlear implant, individual with hearing impairment are required to undergo auditory training to maximize the use of hearing for development of speech and language skills.
The following services are provided under this unit
- Screening and diagnosis of hearing impairment.
- Prescription and fitment of hearing aid.
- Counseling and guidance to parents of children with hearing impairment and persons with hearing impairment .
- Post cochlear implant rehabilitation.
- Referral and follow up services.
Eligibility for availing hearing aids under Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase / Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) Scheme:
- An Indian Citizen of any age.
- Holds a 40% disability certificate.
- Has monthly income from all the sources not exceeding Rs.20, 000/- per month.
- Who have not received assistance during the last 3 years for the same purpose from any source. However, for children below 12 years of age, this limit would be one year.
Speech Language Pathology Unit
Speech-Language Pathologists use various techniques and equipments for assessment and management of speech, voice, language and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages.
The following services are provided under this unit :
- Speech and language evaluation and management of children with hearing, intellectual and developmental disorders.
- Assessment and management of stuttering and cluttering disorders
- Assessment and management of voice disorders, aphasia, dysarthria and swallowing disorder
- Pre cochlear implant assessment of speech and language skills
- Post cochlear implant intervention.
- Counselling and guidance to parents or individual
Education Unit
Education plays an important role in shaping the future of individual, society and in turn nation.
The following services are provided under this unit-
- Educational assessment of children with hearing impairment
- Early intervention.
- Schools placements.
- Remedial teaching for children attending mainstream schools.
- Parent guidance and Referrals.
Psychology Unit
It has been acknowledged that persons with speech, language and hearing disorders exhibit problems in psychosocial domain. This may be noticed as either cause, associated problems or as the effect of their primary speech, language and hearing disorders. The problems with psychosocial dimensions can be alleviated through psychological intervention and rehabilitation.
The following services are provided under this unit
Psychological Evaluation.
Psychological counselling and guidance.
Psycho therapy, Behaviour therapy and Play therapy.
Library Unit
The Library of Regional Centre, Noida has 2295 books. The Institute has subscribed 18 multi-site online e-journals. Internet and wifi facility is available for staff and students. The library is air conditioned and can accommodate twenty individuals.
Outreach Programme
The institute conducts camps for identification and management of speech, language and hearing disabilities and provides hearing aids to needy people.
National Disability Information Helpline Service (NDIHS)
One of the objectives of the centre to disseminate information related to services, facilities and concession available to the persons with disabilities. A unique project is being undertaken to provide information in all areas of disability through telephone. AYJNISHD (D) provides such information through unique project named NDIHS various parts of the country including in the State of Delhi, Jammu Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. NDIHS of these states is situated at AYJNISHD (D), RC, Noida and is available 24×7 through IVRS. Service of Call attendant is available on all working days of the institute.
